Renardine animal repellent - 1 Litre Code 3229
Ref: REN3229
METHOD 1 Soak bundles of chopped firewood with Renardine and then place small heaps of the treated sticks at intervals of about 3' apart round the area to be protected. Re-soak sticks with Renardine at least weekly or after heavy rainfall. METHOD 2 Soak pieces of rag in Renardine and tie these at intervals of 1' to 2' onto string which has been suspended about 9' above the ground on sticks that have been soaked in Renardine. METHOD 3 For use on areas surrounding lawns, golf greens and alongside fences and other places where animals can gain access. Mix Renardine with builders sand, in the proportion of 1 litre to 25kg of sand and sprinkle evenly over the area to be protected at a rate of 1kg per square meter. Apply further Renardine mixed with sand at least weekly or after heavy rain. FOR BADGERS METHOD 4 Where treatment with Renardine requires interference with a badger sett, a licence is needed under the Protection of Badgers Act 1992. Users should contact either the regional offices of the Agricultural Department or the Conservancy Council for an application for a licence.
When used as directed, Renardine with reduce the likelihood of the badgers using treated entrances and can reduce movement of badgers along treated paths, providing alternative routes are available. Following the advice of NNC and ADAS Renardine should be used in the following ways:
1. Treatment of the sett Soak bundles of absorbent material in Renardine and place in hole to a depth of approximately 3'. Take care to avoid pouring Renardine on to the soil. Then lightly block the entrance with soil. When treating setts care should be taken to ensure that some other entrances to the sett are left untreated/unblocked.
2. Badger paths Clear the path of loose vegetation and then proceed as follows; (a) Sand paths. Mix 25 parts sand with 1 part Renardine and spread evenly over the path. (b) Cane paths. Roll garden twine closely and tightly round 15cm canes. Soak Renardine for 10 minutes - drain and place in a plastic bag for handling purposes. Place the canes at right-angle across the cleaned path 50cm from each end. Secure each cane with a tent peg at one end (or both). Place the peg into the ground and cover with soil. Use gloves and goggles when carrying out the above work. Repeat the above treatment every day. FOR MOLES METHOD 5 (a) Soak pieces of tissue paper or absorbent cloth in Renardine, drain and fold pieces. Mole tunnels run below the ground, haphazardly between mole hills, which are small mounds of earth on the ground. Using a sharpened stick or dibber, locate tunnels, place Renardine soaked tissues or other absorbent material in the tunnel, through the holes made by the stick at a rate of 1-2 pieces per square meter. Afterwards make certain that the prod holes are covered in soil. (b) The above treatment will deter moles from the treated area, but there must be an area adjacent to the treated area available for subsequent mole activity. (c) Cordon Sanitaire Plough deep narrow slits (1"-2" wide - 14"-20" deep) using a mole draining plough in the area where the moles exist. Pour Renardine into the slit at the rate of 0.5 litre per metre and ram down. Then add a further 1.5 litre of Renardine per metre. This treatment will normally remain effective for approximately 1 month. Use goggles and gloves whilst this is done. The area around which the treatment is made should be free of moles.
Do's
1) Renardine can be applied directly onto earth without contamination, this is not usually recommended as most of the product drains away and proves to be wasteful and expensive.
2) Since Renardine stains like creosote, fences already painted with such may have Renardine painted along the top or bottom (depending on the animal entrance method) without changing the look of the wood.
3) If the animals are gaining access to you property through a hedge, string threaded through the hedge and hung with Renardine soaked tea bags or rags will help to deter them. Tea bags scattered on the ground will also assist in deterring pests.
4) For freshly dug open areas, tea bags impregnated with Renardine placed under the surface of the soil will allow the smell to be released, without spoiling the look of the garden.
5) Kindling sticks soaked in Renardine may be stood into the ground around lawns and borders closely to form a decorative fence.
6) Renardine may be mixed with sand and spread on paths and gravel drives.
7) If animals are jumping over your wall or fence, suspend a length of string about 6-9" above and hang on impregnated rags or used tea bags.
Dont's
1) Do not apply Renardine directly onto foliage.
2) Do not paint Renardine onto anything you do not wish to stain.
3) Do not open container indoors, contents may spill!
4) It is advisable to wear gloves, old clothes and old footwear when applying Renardine.
5) Do not apply Renardine directly onto ground near water.
6) Do not apply Renardine near your doors or windows, the smell may permeate the house.
7) Remember to test a small area if unsure of staining or smell.
